Kandy Coated Kackles vol 14. The Creeps of Christmas!

Christmas is great, so it may seem
I bet some of you still long for Halloween
Don't fret and don't panic
Here's some yule tide songs to make you go manic!
Its called The Creeps of Christmas
And as you can see
The creeps celebrate the season rather differently

Krampus catches naughty kids
and brings them to his lair
Wolfman is jealous of Santa
He may have more hair!
The Bumble tries to eat Rudolph
Though he's too slow and dumb
Frankenstein is very festive
Putting up the mistle thumb!
Dracula will suck egg nog
From a jugular I bet
This gift is for the Headless Horseman
Its a severed head in a basket!

The Purple People Eater can still rock and roll
The Ghost of Christmas Future is for whom the bell tolls
The Gremlins always cause such a clatter
Jack Skellington creeps in to see what's the matter

The Grinch just hates Christmas
The whole damn season
Boris Karloff suggests
No one quite knows the reason
And Jacob Marley sits tortured in his heavy shackles
He'll cheer up when he listens to some Kandy Coated Kackles

Croc-a-billy Sculpture

So here's something I completely forgot about. I made this sculpture like last summer but never really said anything about it and kept forgetting to post photos. I remember going to a Maurice Sendak show held at an animation gallery and seeing some sculptures that Dr. Seuss did of random made up animals. It got me inspired to do the same! So I chose my favorite animal and combined it with my favorite kind of music and this is what happened! A rebellious rockin' reptile equipt with leather jacket, greasy hair and biiiig teeth!

Here's some making-of photos. Started with tin foil and then covered it with super sculpy.

Baked it in the oven and then painted it with acrylics!

Sculpting is really fun and the end result is always satisfying. I definitely want to try it again once I get some free time. Maybe I'll do something smaller, this guy kinda takes up a lot of room...

RIP Ricky

Ricky Garduno was a one of a kind, genuine, real person. His ideas, art, jokes and interests were intense and like nothing else. His opinions and outlook on life, even though many people didn’t agree with them, were strong and always backed up by legitimate reasons and arguments. He didn’t care what anyone else thought, and thats what I loved about him, I had the pleasure of meeting Ricky twice and being online friends with him all in-between. Its a tragic shame he left us so early, but like all the great people that are taken away from us too soon, that might make him more legendary. I will always have an immense respect for this guy.

Here are some photos from our first meeting, Ricky bought us all breakfast. I don’t remember the context of the 2nd picture, but it makes me laugh, haha. And then some art I did for him including my guest strip for his comic 1930 Nightmare Theater.

Ricky, I hope you finally found something better, man. Cheers. I miss you.

Kandy Coated Kackles vol 13. Weenies In The Hollow!

Well boils and ghouls, we've reach the end of the line here! The 13th and last of the Kandy Coated Kackles. This one is very special because it contains a lot of my personal favorites, and there are A LOT of them! This is the most jam packed of all the mixes. Even the cover is jam packed! You might recognize some of the characters in there.

Anyway, I want to thank everyone for really digging these. This was something I wanted to do for a while but was never sure how to go about it. I didn't think they would be such a big hit! I want to thank everyone for your lovely and heart warming comments and thank you to the Strange Kids Club for keeping up with the volumes and posting them every day. You guys are genuine. It really makes me so very happy to see so many people completely immersed in the spirit of this fine holiday and what better way to get the full effect than with music. Now these are my own personal playlists but the beauty is you can mix and match them to make your own mixes or start from scratch! Whatever you want! I'm so glad to finally be able to share this with everyone, for the people who haven't heard and even the people who have but still enjoy it anyway. So what now? Well I think from now on, every year I'll come out with ONE mix tape since I pretty much just shared my entire Halloween library with you all and it was a lot of work making 13 covers. So look out for volume 14 next year! I hope you all have a fun, happy and safe Halloween and thank you once again! Stay spooky, guys.

Also each mix will have some secret treats that you can only hear when you download them.

So lets start things off with the first volume: Ectoplasmic Essentials. All the essential songs you need for any Halloween party or event. I added a couple songs that people might not know to switch things up. Hope you guys enjoy this volume and tune in tomorrow for the next one!

Blenderstein Beginnings part 1

This is the painting that started it all! A color theory piece done in water color for my Intro to Drawing class in my 1st year at SVA.

Here are the first character models of the three villains I did while trying to develop a comic back in 2008. You can see how they probably wouldn't have worked very well in animation...

Dr. Frappe, back then I was calling him Dr. Magnolius Frappe. Kind of more a mix between Mojo Jojo and that monkey from that 90's Mickey cartoon.

Oogle was being called Blenderstein back then but I thought a name change would be more appropriate since Frankenstein's monster was not named Frankenstein. Blenderstein is the brand of blender they use. He is named Oogle after Charles Ogle who played the Frankenstein monster in the early 1910 version.

Boyle, back when I called him Igorf (Frogi backwards, ooh I'm so clever!). I guess I forgot his "special" eye was on the right side. Whoops!

Here's the first drawing of a character that would later become Sydney. This one was done in '07 I think, senior year of high school. I was big into using real photos as textures. Lazy me.

The character's name was Audrey back then and I wanted to do a series of art with her being attacked by various supernatural beings. You can see I didn't really pursue this project.

Her redesign in 2008, when I decided to try to fit her into the comic. The idea of the two-toned hair is visible. Again, I forgot I put it on the other side, hahaha.

I abandoned this idea maybe in late 2008, and didn't go back to it until I started thinking about my thesis.

Sorry for the old art. Part 2 coming soon!

If you haven't seen the film, you probably should.
